The Witcher Season 2 What We Expect for the new season

Season 2 of The Witcher will be released on December 17th.

It’s excellent news, everyone: the premiere date for new episodes of The Witcher has been confirmed.

Netflix’s first-ever WitcherCon — an event for fans of the games, comics, TV series, and anime film Nightmare of the Wolf – announced the  season release date of December 17, 2021, alongside a poster and a teaser video featuring Geralt of Rivia and Princess Cirilla of Cintra (yeah, we were genuinely spoiled).

During the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour in August, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich noted, “There is still a lot of work to be done in post-production” (via IGN).

“So I’m back and forth between Los Angeles and London finishing that, and that’s where all of our attention is right now, because we need a terrific season two if we’re going to have a season three.”

The Witcher 2 concluded filming in April, and to commemorate the occasion, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes video featuring Henry Cavill and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teasing what’s to come:

“I’m sure none of us have ever seen a television season like this before. We can’t wait to show you what Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Jaskir, and the rest of your favourite characters have been up to since we last saw them at the fight of Sodden Hill.”

Who’s in the cast of The Witcher Season 2?

Cavill, Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), and Freya Allan (Ciri) will all return for season two, according to Hissrich, which was expected considering that they star in a number of the books the programme is based on. witcher

Netflix has revealed a number of fresh casting additions, in addition to the typical CGI monsters and nameless orgy participants:

Nenneke will be played by Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Nivellen by Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Fenn by Liz Carr (Silent Witness), Dijkstra by Graham McTavish (Outlander), Ba’lian by Simon Callow, Rience by Chris Fulton (Bridgerton), Con by Yasen Atour (Young Wallander), Vereena by Agnes Bjorn (Monster), Lambert by Paul Bullion

Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve) will also appear on the programme as witcher trainer Vesemir (a character we originally saw in season two).

Vesemir isn’t just any trainer, though; he’s also Geralt’s father figure and mentor.

“Finding out who Geralt’s father figure was was incredibly crucial to me in a season where Geralt is becoming a father to Ciri,” Hissrich told WitcherCon participants (via EW).

And Cavill relished the opportunity to collaborate with Bodnia.

 

“Kim and I were talking about the emotionality of these characters, and Kim brings a genuine sense of soul and heart to [the role], as well as a true feeling of connection to the outdoors and connection to nature,” Cavill told EW.

“It’s lovely to witness and even more lovely to be a part of. I got to perform some of my favourite scenes with Kim. He does add something unique to the character, and I believe the audience will love it.”

“I really wanted to keep him out of the tunnel,” he explained. “I wanted him to come across as this wonderful figure that [Sapkowski] developed, even if he is dark and cryptic at times. Those are the things I fought for and worked hard to get into the show.”

And it won’t only be the characters who are complicated. Season two would have “several cliffhangers throughout a [single] episode,” according to Cavill.

To us, it all sounds really thrilling!

Of course, if you’re interested in learning more about Vesemir, you might check out Netflix’s animated prequel, Nightmare of the Wolf, which goes into the character’s past.

 

When you combine the Cavill interview hype with the fact that Netflix went to the work of making a cartoon to show us Vesemir’s youth, it’s apparent Vesemir will be a pivotal figure in season two.

But wait, there’s more!

According to Deadline, Carmel Laniado (Dolittle) would portray Violet, “a young girl whose cheerful and whimsical demeanour is a façade for a wiser and more vicious persona.”

We may also expect some queer representation next season, according to showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Following his denial that season one had any homoerotic undertones, The Witcher leader vowed at a Reddit AMA that this would be addressed in season two.

 

What will be the plot of the second season of The Witcher?

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich recently divulged some huge spoilers for the expect from the upcoming season two opening episode, which fans adored.

The first episode will be an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s A Grain of Truth, one of the stories on which the programme is based but was deleted from the first season, according to a Twitter video.

“It’s a narrative about a father and daughter reuniting in a place that doesn’t feel comfortable for them,” Hissrich revealed. “Of course, we really dig into Nivellen, who is played by the amazing Kristofer Hivju, and we get to explore his character and his past with Geralt as well.”

“It’s the ideal start to Season 2 since it’s all about family. It’s about the secrets we keep from one other, as well as the monsters we harbour on occasion “Hissrich went on to say something about the second season’s scheduled premiere episode.

Last year, we also received some narrative details from Netflix concerning season two.

“Believing Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia transports Princess Cirilla to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen,” according to the summary.

“While the Continent’s rulers, elves, humans, and demons fight for supremacy outside its walls, he must safeguard the girl from a far more terrifying threat: the unknown power she possesses within.”

Doesn’t this all sound really exciting?

 

When will the second season of the netflix serie “The Witcher” be released?

We’ve also seen some new footage that focuses just on Ciri, and while it’s merely a teaser, it gives us a good idea of what to expect.

She may be heard yelling “No! Geralt!” before being warned of “danger” near the end.

“Destiny awaits the Lion Cub of Cintra in Season 2,” the description read on Twitter.

“One of the things that of course happens when you’re adapting material is that you have these eight episodes, they’re an hour long each, [and] we had much more of Ciri’s storey in season one that we ended up having to trim down,” Hissrich told TV Guide about what Ciri’s storey will entail in witcher season two.

And it’s one of the reasons why, when I look at the season, I notice that she’s not as present, that Ciri isn’t as present as I’d like her to be.

“So in season two, we’re going to go deeper into her character and learn a lot more about her… where she starts training, where she becomes the character we know from the books and later from the video games, we’ll watch her grow into that person. She, on the other hand, does not change on a dime. We don’t want to forget who she is or where she came from.”
